What is a virtual wall?#
If an artist paints on a canvas, and a climbing wall is the route-setters canvas, then it is a virtual canvas. If that doesn't make much sense to you then a virtual wall is just... a virtual climbing wall.
What is the Virtual Wall Project?#
Virtual Wall Project (VWP) is people, content and software for digital route-setting. The people manage the project and create the content and software. The content is mostly digital models of holds and walls. The software is, for now, the routedesigner game that allows people to play with the content... aka digital route-setting.
What is the goal of VWP?#
The initial goal of VWP is to create something that is cool + fun + useful while spending as little money as possible. This way the project has no need for subscriptions or advertising and is free and open-source.
In the long term we hope that VWP becomes community-driven resource for route-setters, gym managers, coaches and climbers. Hopefully this will increase accessibility to climbing and allow more people to enjoy this incredible sport and lifestyle.
How can I be a part of VWP?#
Please see: Get involved
What is the routedesigner?#
routedesigner is a digital route-setting game created by VWP. If you want to play the game and set a route or boulder problem click here. If you want to learn more about the game, see the source code, make a feature request or other developer stuff please checkout the github repo.
Why is VWP open-source?#
Why not? And mostly to spend as little money as possible. This is why routedesigner is created using all open-source tools including: blender, Armory, and Haxe. Thank you to these great projects!
